NANCY MOORE

Nancy Moore

Nancy Moore begins each painting with the barest graphite outline, then chooses among watercolor, gouache, colored pencil, graphite, and metallic paint to create each image. The transformation of materials into images, of landscape into human form, of pattern into being, of nature into narrative is consistent with Moore’s drive to have a conversation about shape-shifting, creation myth, gender identity, and women’s places and voices in this world.

Moore explains: “I feel like I’ve tapped into a rich vein of material with these women, who keep rising to the surface of my mind, then flow through my hand. These women keep appearing in my head, whispering to my heart, and dancing onto the paper--I’m doing my best to keep up with them.”

Nancy Moore has exhibited her art widely in galleries, museums, and other public and private institutions.
