Rachelle Oatman is an international pet portrait painter who lives and works in both Europe and New York City. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Boston University and her Master’s degree from the Institute Superieur de Peinture in Belgium.
Her anthropomorphic portraits of dogs continue a historic tradition of art (strongest in 1700-1800s England and France). These caricature portraits are a political, humanistic, and humorist commentary on human character. Because of the unique facial expressions of dogs and their distinctly different mixable “races/breeds”, dogs are one of the best choices of animals to “anthropomorphize”. Rachelle started painting dogs while living in Milan, Italy during the 1990’s “Golden Age of Italian Fashion and Design”. With the combination of her oil painting skill, sophisticated sense of humor, and inspiration from European fashion, she quickly became THE pet portrait painter of Europe.
Some past clients include: Princess Caroline of Monaco, Valentino, Jean Paul Gaultier, Billy Joel, Alan Schwartz, and many other art collector luminaries.
