Alberta Cifolelli (1932–2022) was a contemporary American artist known for her emotionally resonant,
nature-inspired works, which earned her the label “Neo-Symbolist” from New York Times critic
Donald Kuspit. Her paintings are held in major collections including the United Nations and the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Over her prolific career, she mounted more than 50 solo exhibitions, including
five in New York City.
Cifolelli graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1953, which awarded her its highest honor, the
Charles Burchfield Award for Lifetime Achievement, in 2018. She lived for decades in Westport, Connecticut, where the coastal landscape of Saugatuck Shores deeply influenced her later work.
